The most valuable commodity on the earth is time. It’s your time; it’s my time. Everything else orbits around it. Therefore, I’m not comfortable with the idea of ‘just killing time.’ How can we waste our limited resource on something that does not produce any value?

I was deeply influenced by Steve Job’s infamous commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005 (link here). One of the lessons that have stayed with me even after 13 years was, his third story.
“My third story is about death. When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”
It’s easy to fall into the trap of monotony; it’s quite comfortable there. This comfort zone gives you an illusion of being ‘king of the world’; it feeds your ego. That’s precisely why your days look and feel the same. The idea of leaving the bubble might be scary for you, but taking your days for granted is a terrible mistake. You are not born to just cross-off dates on the calendar; you are here to make every day count.
Ability to take risks and to open your mind to new experiences demands courage from us. Sometimes, our fear of unknown takes over and blurs our vision. However, folks who see things from a long-term perspective are willing to take more risks than people who are looking for short-term gratification. If you can see the bigger picture of your life, you will not be satisfied by just doing minimal. You would want to explore your potential every day.

Do not replicate your days. Wake up with the idea of making a difference. Do one thing that will add value to your or someone’s life. It’s that simple; just one thing a day.
At the beginning of this practice, you might have to set a reminder or rename your alarm as ‘make a difference.’ Once your attitude has been shifted, this principle will guide your most of the decisions in your life. It will change the way you spend your day, choose your company and most importantly visualize yourself. So, go ahead and break the silent monotony; challenge yourself.
